...oh... kay. So, there's the Versailles curse coming up this weekend, and of course that meaaaaaaaans: drama. Costumes. And exceedingly pink pastries (among other things).

So just comment with whatever plans you have for your characters: will they be part of the grand aristocracy, the working staff, revolutionaries, mere courtiers working their way through ranks, ambassadors? What are their plots and plans, and more importantly, whom else can you drag into it? Put down if your character needs some help (a lady might need a personal attendant, for instance, a palace guard commander might require his subordinates, etc) as well!

Just have fun with it, hur hur.

Oh, and something to keep in mind for this Sunday at 20:00 / 8 p.m. EST:

A GREAT BALL @ THE VERSAILLES PALACE

THE WORLD'S FINEST NOBILITY IN ATTENDANCE

CITIZENS CORDIALLY INVITED

Foreign Entourage, Assemble!

So being that a big part of Versailles was the social intrigue and potential for political advancement, here we have a Rosella, eligible daughter (though not heir) of the ruler of a tiny foreign kingdom looking to score as many political ties and alliances as possible with the powerhouse that is France, and doing this by sending his daughter to court and letting her work her mojo on the king and courtiers there. It's all about doing her part to strengthen her kingdom for her brother's succession, and while she's not precisely looking for a marriage, she's not above getting her flirt on to garner favor with the elite to persuade them to look kindly on her tiny, reasonably defenseless kingdom.

She ought to have an entourage with her, if anyone's looking for a noble to serve or a role to fill, and she'll be completely willing to dive right in to the backstabbing game of thrones that is Versailles. Personal objections mean little; the preservation of her kingdom is everything.

Anyone interested in working out connections with her, planning some shenanigans, letting her covertly embarrass you in front of the court, etc.? I'm open to ideas; let's have a chat!

Why, hello.

Are you wealthy and politically influential?

Re: Foreign Entourage, Assemble!

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, yes. But I'm still misrepresenting myself.

Re: Foreign Entourage, Assemble!

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, damn. It would be just my luck to get tangled up in the affairs of a spy while I'm trying to preserve the future of my kingdom.

Re: Foreign Entourage, Assemble!

But he is rather a handsome spy. And he's named "Christophe" too.

Re: Foreign Entourage, Assemble!

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
OH, WELL THEN.

What would you think of her initially targeting him as a potential connection and then somehow accidentally uncovering what he's really doing in Versailles?

Re: Foreign Entourage, Assemble!

[identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as he can somehow get her to maintain her silence |D He doesn't really feel like dying... Otherwise, yes!

I'm working out what his fake title might be ("Comte" something or other), but he will have one, so feel free to gravitate~

HE SHOULD TOTALLY DRUG HER.

In theory, she's still Rosella enough to be swayed by a pretty face, so between that and the fact that she's not quite as strategically masterful as she thinks she is, I could have her decide to sit on the secret as leverage (and debate which is more useful to her, the British monarchy or the French one, since she's got one of their spies) and hesitate long enough for him to super sekritly put her out of commission. IDK, prick her with a drugged pin while you're dancing and claim she fainted from giddiness or something. Or whatever works best for you, I'm open to shenanigans! Nothing says she has to find out, after all.

I dare you to make him Monsieur le Comte de Monte-Cristo.

/SCREAM

I like the idea of her sitting on the secret! That'll make Cain sweat a bit and work harder to either win her or eliminate her. And he's certainly not above sticking her with a pin during the minuet...

Christophe Corbeau-Dupuis, Monsieur le Comte de Monte-Cristo? HMMMMM!

What is this thing I have with people getting drugged all over the place, I don't even.

Yeah, I doubt she'd just go run and tattle to the king because it'd still be her word against Cain's, not that he'd just up and give her audience anyway, and she wouldn't tell anyone else because they might seize it themselves and then take all the credit and leave her with nothing. Plus she'd hesitate on backstabbing such a good-looking guy because OH ROSELLA, YOU AND YOUR SUPERFICIALITY. So she'd definitely have reason to keep it under wraps awhile, which would leave him ample chance to get the better of her.

I LOVE IT. Especially since the isle of Monte Cristo is, effectively, a rock in the middle of nowhere. Where pirates and smugglers occasionally camp out. Awwwwwwwwww, yeah.

Oh my god. Alex.

Does Rosella want Hammer as a servant/bodyguard? I THINK I KNOW WHAT NAME HE CAN HAVE. 8DDDDD

[identity profile] protects-her.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Is he going to carry ALL her bags. At once. Like a hulking behemoth of manpower.

Sure, I can't imagine her family would send her somewhere without a full complement of loyal retainers, especially considering she's the sister of the heir and traveling alone.

[identity profile] sitaronthewater.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Keep calling him a hulking behemoth of manpower and he'll do whatever you want, bab-

Oh, right. He has to stop doing that. That's how he got fired from his last job. He meant to say 'Yes, ma'am.'

[identity profile] prefers-chess.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! Backstory-wise, Rosella's royalty from a small and probably rich but militarily weak kingdom looking for contacts with one of the big powers to help keep itself sovereign and established, so he'd probably be a long-term guard in her family's service? Possibly one they sent because he is very large and menacing, even if his skills at diplomacy are not quite as...lauded.

[identity profile] horrible-protag.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, cool! That sounds about right. Thanks~

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-05-22 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And just to keep the name/title/etc thing on the same page, would the good hulking behemoth of manpower like to be dubbed Sir Mal Heymer, a knight of the kingdom of Daventry?

[identity profile] horrible-protag.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
It took me five minutes to figure out how that was funny this afternoon when I was able to sneak a peek at this comment, (I kept saying, Mal, like from Firefly?) and I got it when I was downstairs, and had to hide my face from laughing.

I just got back now. It is still hilarious.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not gonna lie, half the reason I picked 'Mal' as an abbreviation was because of the Firefly reference on top of it.

But it all works so perfectly that I couldn't resist.

[identity profile] horrible-protag.livejournal.com 2011-05-23 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't put anything so amazing past you. I'd say that poor Hammer will never get Rosella to think about his name correctly, but he's a dick, so I don't feel bad at all.
pike: (if i cared enough i'd be embarrassed)

HELLO PRINCESS ELIGIBLE DAUGHTER.

YOU HAVE A HULKING BEAST TO CARRY YOUR LUGGAGE

but do you have an entourage member who's got a better bedside manner (sometimes) and isn't above poisoning people in your name? HMMMMM?

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD YES

GET IN HERE

THIS TRAINWRECK IS BECOMING EVEN MORE GLORIOUS ALL THE TIME

[identity profile] proportioned.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
NIGEL MAY WANT TO SHANK SOMEONE ONCE ROSELLA IS OVERCOME BY SNEAKY MCSNEAKYPANTS THOUGH

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S JUST A FAINTING SPELL. CLEARLY.

Obviously you'll have to run whatever aftermath details past Caru, but if Nigel wants to be the one who figures out that Rosella's ~mysterious fainting spell~ isn't all it seems to be, I'm okay with that?

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2011-05-22 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay so obviously if Nigel's gonna be in this entourage, he's gonna need a kickass name and title and style and all that. Sooo (contingent on your approval), I hereby dub Nigel's dad the Duke of Castleton (in the kingdom of Daventry), and as eldest son that therefore earns Nigel the secondary title of Marquess/Marquis of Cloverfeld.

CONGRATS, PEOPLE HAVE TO CALL YOU "MY LORD" NOW.
