Stealing money plot?

Does the City have banks, of the monetary variety? I've never heard talk of it, but given the sheer amount of NPC population here, it seems logical that they would. If there is, anyone want to get in on a Salami Slicing/computer hacking plot?

For those who haven't heard of it, salami slicing is the act of stealing the fractions-of-pennies off of people's bank accounts. It sounds trifling, but once you sum that over lots of people, you get pretty good money. And once you do this over a long time, so long as you don't get caught, you get sweet amounts of money.

Reds are fractions of Indigos; if you extrapolate this correctly, you can assume Reds as being the minimum unit of money (kind of like a penny is, for the Americans out there). So if you took .99 of a Red from everyone , you'd end up with a whole lot of Reds if you assume the City has 100,000 residents. SHODAN wants to get her machine on, get supplies and stuff up and running, but working as a human minion is just so beneath her. XD

Anyone else want to get in on this? She'd probably only take 1 or 2 people at best, because after that you would just end up dividing the money into far too few amounts. I'm sure it wouldn't work forever -- we can't have infinite money, right? :P -- but it would supply all involved with enough funds to do something Awesome and possibly Evil.

Computer skilled people desired, because otherwise everyone gets caught, and SHODAN doesn't want to risk that. (Also, she needs access to a good computer, especially one not in public, because she has nothing to start with.)

I've been playing Hardison (hacker/thief) as KIND of doing this on a small basis and affecting no PCs since his arrival. He doesn't take enough to make a fuss, just enough to live off of all right, since that's how he makes his living where he comes from.

If anything, he'd notice someone else doing it? I...probably should have made a note about it, lol. /fail

I did plan on eventually getting him caught/jailed for a little bit, though.

That's all good, I mean he's the second best in his canon but that's 2009-2010 regular earth. His forte is making buttloads of money out of practically nothing but really I don't see how he'd keep up with an AI.

I can see him noticing that SOMETHING is happening, and that if he can't track it/break in, then he'll be really suspicious/curious and try harder even though it won't result in anything. He won't care about it except for the challenge it presents, and if it takes away from his goody bag.

Also /waves -- Beckett mun here :3

OH OH what if she sets him up to take the fall to keep her own tracks clean and get him out of her hair?

There is a bank, which can be found here (http://community.livejournal.com/poly_places/3265.html), listed in [livejournal.com profile] poly_places.

In the future, we would really appreciate it if plots like these could be brought to moderator attention before going through with them; however, it is alright this time as long as you are alright with consequences eventually being handed out by the deities as a result of these actions.

The deities are always watching, even if they don't necessarily always take action, especially regarding things like citizen on citizen violence. They do not only step in whenever destruction of the City itself is concerned, and especially as the bank and the monetary system of the City is deity-established, they might be interested in this sort of thing; however, as mentioned, this is okay to go on right now.

If you'd like it to go on for say... a month or so, that would be alright. But the deities will eventually take notice!

And I have to vanish for class now, but if you'd like to discuss consequences and stuff like that, then you can always, always email us with questions and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

/raises hand

I think deity intervention is required on Hardison. And a humble MY BAD from me! Admittedly it didn't even occur to me to ask, sorry. HAVE SOME CANDY TO MAKE UP FOR IT! :3

I LOVE CANDY.

If you two would like to work something out with each other - I know you've got kind of a proposal of something like that up there - and then maybe we can all work out some details of something for everyone involved re: deity involvement and stuff like that, that would be cool.
