More Touhou has arrived!
OHAI
There needed to be more Touhous, so I added a second character. Also because Utsuho really needed to be balanced out with someone more reasonable.
It's everyone's favoritebuzzkill judge of souls from 9, Shikieiki. She and her judgmental self are going to be derping around the City; intro post is here!

Feel free to drop in on her and say hi. She's very nice, just a little...well...fine, has something of a stick up her bum and doesn't do much in the way of wild parties or much, but she'll certainly have a philosophical conversation or two. :) (and needs someone totorment her encourage her to be a little less high-strung :P)
See you around the City!

Yay, more Touhou characters! I have no personal experience with the games, but these characters all seem so fun and interesting!

Which game should I play?

IMO, you want to play 6 onward first. The earlier games were for an obscure Japanese gaming console (PC-98, whatever that is), and so yeah. They're very Dresden Files in that they introduce a new world concept in each game, and a new set of characters who embody it.
6 -- Embodiment of Scarlet Devil -- often seen as the easiest of the new games, but I don't agree. Most people start with this because it's the one that swept America first. Here is where modern Touhou is introduced.
7 -- Perfect Cherry Blossom -- Comparable to 6, maybe a bit easier if you ask me. Has fewer memorable characters than 6 or 8 IMO, unless you include the super-hard extra unlock stage bosses (where Yukari's bullshit boundary powers appear. She's awesome but so damn OP :P). The ghosts are introduced in this game.
8 -- Imperishable Night -- I consider this the easiest one due to how easy it is to get extra lives once you know what you're doing. It's also the only one I've ever cleared without continues, so there you go. The immortals are introduced in this game.
9 -- Phantasmagoria of Flower View -- this one has weird mechanics, so I wouldn't recommend you start here. It's set up as a "vs. computer" dueling type of shooter, which is weird until you see it and then it makes more sense. (Kind of like the old Dr. Mario etc. games, you play on your own side and the things you do send attacks to the enemy's side. You don't directly fight your enemy.) Shikieiki comes from here. The Shinigami and Yama are introduced in this game.
10 -- Mountain of Faith -- harder than 6-9, I recommend not starting here either. Has a really bitchy hard final boss and a stage 4 that is weirdly powerful. The gods are introduced in this game.
11 -- Subterranean Animism -- *the* hardest Touhou game, known as the one where the creator decided he suddenly wanted to amp the difficulty. My favorite of the games, despite how damn hard it is. Utsuho comes from this game. The underground/hell youkai are introduced here. But really, it's not a great starting point due to its difficulty :P
12 -- Unidentified Fantastic Object -- high-resources, high-difficulty. Kind of weird in that it has a mechanic to get you metric tons of lives and bombs if you have enough skill to pick up certain powerups. I certainly don't, so it's hard for me to get far in this game. (I haven't beaten level 4 yet; this is worse performance from me than even in 11, which is overall harder.) I wouldn't suggest starting here due to its funky mechanics. This game focuses on a plot arc that was started in 11's backstory, about a resurrected youkai saint and her entourage.
13 -- Ten Desires -- low-resources, low-difficulty compared to some, but I wasn't a fan of the characters, and I actually don't know much about the game. Focuses on the fallout from 12, which is that a bunch of folks resurrected a famous anti-youkai "human saint" to deal with the fact that a youkai temple just sprang up at the end of 12.
tl;dr holy crap:
If I were you, I'd start with 6, 7, or 8. ;)

No apologies necessary, I get just as TL;DR-y (or worse— often worse) when you get me started on something I love.6 and 7 both look like good places to start! I should definitely try playing sometime!

It is fun and easy so far! ♥ Although, not being able to save/continue was surprising.

Easy? Wow. :) My first time I was just a ball of panic. WHAT IS THIS I CAN'T KEEP IT ALL STRAIGHT AUAUGUGHGH and then it got better...and you say you're not good at games ;) How far did you get?
Yes, you can't save, it's arcade-style. Though you can practice levels you've completed! You do get a few continues, though! (Some games, you can acquire more -- like in 8, where you can pick up more continues, or in 10 and 11, where you can continue as much as you want but have to restart the level you died on each time. 7 gives you three continues, I think.)
The Moriya Shrine website has tons of materials for Touhou if you care. :P

That and I was playing on easy and picked Sakuya, so that's probably why I found it easy, ffff.I'll take a look at it!
