the present was an egg laid by the past that had the future inside its shell

27; Egg Hunt
Mysterious eggs have appeared all around the City and they're waiting to be collected.

29; How To Train Your...
This one shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

As promised, here's a post on the end of March's event!

March 27, citizens will find eggs hiding in various places in the City. Some are plain, some are speckled, some are a little oblong shaped, some are gold, some are bejeweled, and some come in neon colors. Your characters can crack the eggs and cook what comes out (sorry it's just strange yolk reflecting the colorway of the shell, nothing gross to see here) and the result of their meal will be an upset stomach lasting at least three days. Too bad so sad. But if your character decides to keep the egg intact they'll be getting a surprise in a few days.

March 29, citizens with an egg in their possession will find it has cracked itself open. And what's that coming out? It's a dragon is what it is. Little dragons. Dragons the size of your forearm. It may as well be an iguana with wings. Isn't it cute? The kawaii doesn't last for long though because as the dragons breathe in the City air they get bigger bigger and bigger. From iguana size to bus size in a matter of 24 to 48 hours. This is a problem for the City, as the dragons grow so do their powers; moderately threatening fire, fairly eardrum shattering soundwaves, formidable lightning strikes you name it. Oh and they have appetites. For what is up to you, just know it's going to be voracious. Also they don't talk and they do not come with any training!

Round Up; the dragon "infestation" as the Deities call it will last a few days, up until 11:59pm April 3. They have a plan to get rid of the reptile vermin and the Deities will be giving the City a heads up on when and how.

How To Keep Your Dragon; we the mods are giving you the players a heads up that you can keep the dragons your characters get...providing that your character finds another character who can shrink the dragon back to its big old house cat, basset hound, basking iguana size. It can be through magic, through science, or through a Deity trade. For the purpose of this event the magic or science routes should be considered difficult but doable and unlikely to be frequent for the duration of the event. That means a spell might work only twice before the magician has to rewrite the incantation or the mad scientist's shrinking ray broke after two shrinks and needs a day of repairs before it can shrink again. We're leaving the hows and how manys to you guys and trust you won't go overboard with it!

With regards to dragon powers, shrinking their size shrinks their powers down as well so firebreathing turns into occasional firecoughing and lightning bolts turn into static shocks and maybe that soundwave is now a dog whistle. We'd like to stress the powers as very low level yet in the right circumstances their powers can be useful. In the future their powers and size might change for certain events or curses but their default after this event will be on the small low level side.

Additional Info! A Deity post has been made here concerning the removal of dragons. The portal will be open throughout April 1 to April 3 but the dragons wouldn't have to fly off immediately. In fact the more they resist the more unruly they become 8)

So there you have it, the opportunity to have a pet dragon of your own! Of course you're more than welcome to have your character leave their dragon at the mercy of the Deities too 8) One dragon per character please!

Ask questions if you have any and feel free to use this post as a way of offering your character's shrinking/dragon taming/who knows whats it prowess!

AAAAAH SO EXCITING /rubs face all over this event

Are any magical/mystical/mad scientists about who'd be willing to help any of my distinctly boring and normal guys wrangle large lizards back to fun-size? I wanna consider all my options 8)

EDIT: oops watch me forget to think things through. IF ANYONE NEEDS, Aziraphale is available to miracle dragons down to size. Wooooo angel.

...ahahahahaha oh my GOD there is no way this can possibly end well for Rosella. Her dragon will probably try to eat her. Om nom delicious princess and so on and so forth.

WHICH MEANS OBVIOUSLY I SHOULD FIND A WAY FOR HER TO KEEP IT POST-CURSE, Y/Y/MFY.

Anyway, the point is, given her natural...uh, disinclination toward dragons, I could conceivably see her holing up in the Library and going on a marathon research binge looking for spellbooks and/or other magical methods that might help to combat the things, which presumably could yield some shrinking spells? So she might be able to help facilitate that for people looking to keep their dragon, assuming they could find a magic type to cast it. She could probably do it on her own, too (she's got a magic wand), but generally Rosella has to work pretty hard before she can get a spell off, so I don't know that she'd be much help for other people, outside of being a Kickass Librarian™ to help track workable spells down.

...She might end up managing to shrink her own dragon herself, though, if only because that'd be nice and poetic--she finally lives up to Alexander using magic to save her from a dragon by vanquishing one herself with magical aptitude of her own.

(and then of course she doesn't really slay it because nothing is ever traditional in Rosella's life.)

SO here's a query. Do they cause the same nausea if eaten after they've hatched?

Yes. Get yourself a mini-dragon, Rosella. Name it "Thelonius" or something. Then you can have Ellington the baby Cthulhu and Thelonius the mini-dragon and Blue would be so proud ;3;

I LOVE HER WEIRD MENAGERIE OF VERY UN-PRINCESSY ASSOCIATES SO MUCH.

I also picture her being really hateful and nasty toward the thing up until it ends up tiny and then suddenly she starts to feel bad about being a hypocrite and a bully. Maybe that could be why she ends up shrinking it in the first place, is she chickens out on slaying it at the last minute because four years in the City = character development...

Rosella

If a couple of your friends were to wind up with a dragon...

...any chance you'd help them shrink it with those spells??

And to think, they were just talking about holing up in the Library and having a marathon research session, too.

--you know there's actually a Sesame Street nursery rhyme called "Silly Annabelle" about a girl who shrinks a dragon that's been wrecking their village. Literally, there's a "magic powder for turning big dragons into little dragons" made of, apparently, mushrooms and turnip seeds and a feather from a swan and dust from the northwest corner of the tallest house in the village. Maybe I can fake a spell based on that and the Terrible Trio can have ridiculous adventures trying to get all the supplies for it...

Hey, that'd surely constitute "difficult but doable", right?

...also because I imagine them unearthing this spell somehow in the Library and having that moment of WELL, THAT SURE IS A WILDLY AND COINCIDENTALLY SPECIFIC SPELL, THEN, ISN'T IT.

You know in order to make the spell work you have to put the powder on the tip of the dragon's nose.

And all I can see now is some kind of really obvious Dragon Trap with Rosella Bait and she's just like GUYS I AM NOT FOND OF THIS IDEA but it doesn't matter because she got outvoted two to one, thereby giving her yet another reason to think democracy is incredibly stupid.

"Are you guys sprinkling salt on me?"
"NO IT'S UH. Fairy dust. To protect you. Yup."
"...okay guys I'm allergic to fairy dust I am pretty sure this is salt you are sprinkling on me actually what the hell."
"WHOOPS NO TIME TO TALK ABOUT IT HERE COMES THE DRAGONS have fun bye."

ARE YOU KIDDING they would never endanger her like that

I vote it's a girl dragon so we can name her Anabelle after the song, she clearly should go after Todd cause he's dreamy.

I KNOW but it makes me giggle anyway.

AHAHAHA OH MY GOD and Rosella's all steeling herself to be eaten and then OH WAIT SUDDENLY NOT because it legit never occurred to her that it might be a GIRL DRAGON.

and then they accidentally use way too much powder and suddenly so tiny.
had_not_lived: (☛ & really bad eggs!)

Screeeeeeeaaaa can I just have one of those for real it would sit on my shoulder and snort fire when people piss me off on the phone at work T_T

Maaaan I'd been picturing house cat size but that is too cute for words
primrosella: (Picturesque)

[personal profile] primrosella 2013-03-27 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm debating between house cat size and ridiculously supertiny for Rosella's dragon, because on one hand a little stompy dragon chasing around her cat would kind of be stupidly cute and hilarious, but at the same time she'd be less afraid of one the size of her finger.

...also because I'm a terrible person I'm thinking of having her name it Edmund and making him turn out to be a miniature dragon cockblock because this is the running joke that never stops being funny to me.

SO MAYBE WE CAN DO ONE OF EACH? One cat-sized and one bitty-sized? IDK.

[personal profile] had_not_lived 2013-03-27 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
SCREAM but it shouldn't be Edmund it should be Eustace >> sorry couldn't resist.

WELL OK we can have one of each and figure out later who gets what. Or they can all be joint owned and flit around from place to place. Or anything 8D yay tiny dragons omg

BITTY DRAGONS BITTY DRAGONS

You know I had actually considered the Eustace thing when I first came up with the idea and then I pictured Actual Edmund being all like "wait no hold the phone I'm not the dragon that's Eustace B|" and from there on out it was too funny to resist.

Are the dragons killable? Especially at small sizes?

Eustace is my favorite I considered apping him once but then I didn't. Just to be a stuck-up little jerk. And/or dragon.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS I CAN'T. Ok. Do we want them to be at the library today or tomorrow, find the spell and be like huh how odd, then remember it when big dragons start wrecking the place? Or should they go to the library (with poets as research assistants) when dragons show up and find it then?

And what is the tallest building, huh. It's probably the Deity towr?

[personal profile] primrosella 2013-03-27 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. Well, Rosella's instinct upon seeing a dragon is probably going to be the twofold reaction of OH SHIT RUN and "fix this with magic", if only because that's where her personal experience comes in (although she might suggest they get a bucket of water and throw it on a given dragon's snout, which is what her dad did to combat his dragon when he met it), so I'm thinking it might work better to wait? Given the event's timing, the dragons would theoretically be showing an increase in size by late Friday night into Saturday, which would work better for me personally since I'd be on weekend by then. Plus then we could say that once the dragons started growing, Team Poet rounded up and made a break for the Library to bunker down in there and look for a way to fix it?

Part of the hilarity, I think, would be the fact that if Rosella's in a panic about the dragonry, she's not going to be on her A-game as far as finding things in the Library is concerned, so she'll end up pulling out all sorts of wacky things like histories on dragoons and books on wagons and otherwise ridiculous stuff because she wouldn't be able to focus enough to cheat the system like she usually does.

That said, that's what works for me personally, and I'm absolutely flexible to accommodate you and Rae, so don't just let me dictate everything! I mean, they could just as easily find it today and then have ridiculous shenanigans trying to re-find it when it becomes relevant on Friday. Plus there's all the running around collecting mushrooms and turnip seeds and stuff to account for, too, so there's plenty of room to get a timeline set up. o/
had_not_lived: (☛ he glanced with rapid eyes)

[personal profile] had_not_lived 2013-03-27 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Waiting works for me at least, and we can poke Rae when she gets home~ weekends do tend to be better for posting/tagging/et cetera. Lately I spend one day visiting my grandparents for Complicated Family Reasons but that doesn't actually preclude tagging anyway. I'm just not sure what the schedule this weekend is like yet \o/

Also we're going to have to figure out this dust thing-- from the northwest corner of the attic of the tallest building means we're gonna have to figure out how they can get dust from the... top floor I guess? of the Deities' office... oh my!

(you don't happen to have a plurk thingamabobber for ease of plotting, do you?)

OMG SO EXCITED ABOUT EVERYTHING WITH THIS PLOT.
