4th Walls and Time Loops

Hello, Polychromatic~ A moment of your time, if you will~

We think we need to clarify the write-ups on the calendar regarding today's Crossed Wires curse and the 4th Wall Day coming up on July 4th, and especially what some of the parenthetical notes meant.

First of all, the calendar write-up for today's curse included the note, "Yes you may have accounts tagging this entry for 4th Wall Day as well, just label the entry as open for 4th Wall tagging in advance." And if you read down a little further to the 4th Wall Destruction notes, you'll see, "Accounts tagging around on 4th Wall Day may tag July 2 entries with explicit player consent."

What we mean is that you may use the Crossed Wires posts for comment threads on 4th Wall Day with player permission (because there are some juicy revelations in those accidentally unlocked posts) but you may not have characters and players 4th Walling your post as though they are 4th Walling it during today's event. We understand some people are forward-dating because of hiatuses and weekend obligations, and that's shifty ground, so be careful with forward-dating. Just remember that 4th Wall Day isn't happening today, July 2nd. So if your character is talking about both the Crossed Wires curse today and 4th Wall Destruction, that isn't quite how the calendar is set up. Today is only Crossed Wires. You may use a character's Crossed Wires post for 4th Wall Day on or after 4th Wall Day on July 4th if you're not able to post on July 4th yourself or if you want the revelations of Crossed Wires sent out to the wonders of the broken 4th Wall. There is no 4th Wall Destruction going on in the City as of July 2nd (today), all forward-dating aside.

If you absolutely cannot backdate after July 4th for whatever reason, and you're forward-dating your 4th Walling, remember that you're playing as if today is July 4th and not July 2nd. July 2nd is only Crossed Wires Day, which can be a set-up for 4th Wall Day on July 4th. And be sure to have permission before 4th Walling a Crossed Wires post. A Crossed Wires post (posted July 2nd) could be found by those clever 4th Wallers on July 4th, despite the day having passed.

Does that make things a little more clear? We're sorry that this didn't come across as clearly as it could have, and players have been asking us to clarify. So we thought we'd hop on this quick as we could to clear things up. We realize now that that was rather confusing, and we wanted to clear this up with everyone before things got any more confused than they already were.

Oh well. The damage is done now. That we were allowed to forward-date is exactly how I read it. Apologies for misinterpreting that but I did believe that the point of enabling 4th walling for this event was playing 4th wall day in advance for those unable to be around during the actual date.

You're allowed to forward-date if you so choose or if it's necessary, but the two curses can't be played as occurring at the same time. That's the only key difference. The two curses are happening on two different days on the calendar, so they don't really overlap in City-time, even if you or any other player decide you need to bend time a little and forward-date.

Understood. Would it help if I made an ETA to blame the filter fail in Umi's post on personal bad luck/technology-deficiency instead of today's curse? I realize it doesn't take back a lot of what's been played already but maybe it'd help keep things more consistent?

If you give explicit permission to other players, yes, that would be all right. Just remember that 4th Wall Day only happens on July 4th, so anyone commenting there would have, in the "story" of the game, found the old post on the Network.
