"How often we have seen that City of Never, that marvel of the Nations! Not when it is night in the World, and we can see no further than the stars; not when the sun is shining where we dwell, dazzling our eyes; but when the sun has set on some stormy days, all at once repentant at evening, and those glittering cliffs reveal themselves which we almost take to be clouds, and it is twilight with us as it is for ever with them, then on their gleaming summits we see those golden domes that overpeer the edges of the World and seem to dance with dignity and calm in that gentle light of evening that is Wonder's native haunt. Then does the City of Never, unvisited and afar, look long at her sister the World."
--Lord Dunsany

A long time ago, there was a map made of the City. The City grew and changed, and the map was also changed. And the City grew and changed again, and [livejournal.com profile] poly_places was born. And the City grew and changed yet again, and the map was once more changed until today.

Here, then, is the new and current incarnation of the City Map!

Check this out: as of right now, there are over 90 separate, individual, identifiable locations in the City and its environs (in the City, in the Underground, or elsewhere on the island). Over 90!! That's a lot of places, you guys! Good grief! And, really, there are actually even more because there are lots of other things in the City that aren't on this map (this is the City: you can find anything you want here if you look hard enough--and I, for one, know that there are shrines to Cthulu around here somewhere...).

And! I have to say one of the most amazing things was to find little "districts" forming as I put things in place. For example, the Blue Light, the music studio, the music store, and the Opera House are all kind of in the same neighborhood--and, as far as I can tell, it was largely by chance, based on the locations players had asked for. There's a run of clothing shops, a cluster of magic stores, the restaurants and other food-related places are predominantly on the square--really, Misery Square is prime real estate. Very popular. The Deities are raking in the rent there, for sure...

Some Important Notes
Cartographer's Notes... )

Okay, okay, on to the maps themselves!

→A final word of warning: these maps aren't really dial-up friendly. As such, I'm linking to them here, but they have been posted as images under cuts on the [livejournal.com profile] poly_places map page. There is also a table of information along with the City and Underground maps: each named location has been given a number on the map, and the corresponding number in the table lists the location's name. Also, the numbering is a little eccentric, and for that I apologize. The Deities apparently hired some kind of homicidal psychopath to do their city planning...

The City in All Its Glory III )

♥ So here it is. Polyites, this is your City, these are the places you've made. [livejournal.com profile] polychromatic, you will never cease to amaze me.

THIS IS JANE HERE, WITH MY FIRST NEW CHARACTER SINCE AUGUST. I play Yuri Lowell [[livejournal.com profile] notflynn] and Oz Vessalius [[livejournal.com profile] existais]. Hope is manlier than both of them. He is the manliest man who has ever lived.

He's from Final Fantasy XIII, and he'll be from mid-chapter 7, just before he gets exploded down a building with Snow. If you're wondering why I took him from so early - I wanted to explore his bitterness with Snow a bit more. When I canon-update him in the future, I'll be sure to write up on how he changed! Cause believe me, he grows a lot.

I feel so weird.

I haven't done this in months, guys.

Months.
